Zagreb international airport

The new airport city will be a single campus of many smaller campuses. The systematic integration of below-grade airport and campus parking into the development strategy assures that the campus ground-plane will be free of motor-vehicle traffic. Forests, fountains, and stone-paved plazas will create a pedestrian focused landscape, creating a healthy and beautiful work environment around the campus buildings.

The terminal building's energy and structural systems are designed to minimize it's impact on the environment and to contribute to carbon neutrality. Heating and cooling will take advantage of the soil and aquifer temperatures in adjacent geologic strata. Passive ventilation, radiant heating and radiant cooling will reduce reliance on electrical systems and mechanical air movement. Interior winter gardens and green walls will condition interior air reducing the need for additional filtering and mechanical air exchange.

The building's skin is designed to reduce energy loads by permitting a maximum amount of daylight while providing the acoustic and thermal separations of an airfilled blanket. Stormwater remediation and a greywater system, energy exchange between airport city buildings, and the implementation of a tri-generation plant to provide heat, cool, and electricity, will all contribute to the sustainability of the overall project.
